Jerome 8th in Falun; on to final World Cup event in Slovenia

FALUN, Sweden — Jessica Jerome jumped to 8th place Saturday in the women’s normal hill World Cup event in Falun, Sweden, site of the 2015 World Ski Jumping Championships.

Jerome jumped 84.5 and 87 meters in ferocious wind, which delayed the competition multiple times. World Cup champion Sara Takanashi, of Japan, and teammate Yuki Ito were 1st and 2nd followed by Julia Kykkaenen, of Finland, in 3rd. Sunday’s Falun competition was cancelled because of strong wind gusts.

“Saturday was OK for me. I was in the top 10, which I’m happy for given that I made some technical mistakes on both jumps,” Jerome said. “I'm looking forward to fixing those in preparation for the final comp of the season.”

It was Jerome’s eighth top-10 WC result this season, highlighted by her 2nd-place finish in Rasnov, Romania March 2 and a 10th place in the large hill event at the famed Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway on March 3.

Jerome will head to the final World Cup competition of the season on Saturday, March 22 in Planica, Slovenia on the large hill.
