HEAD COACH & ATHLETIC PROGRAM MANAGER
As Head Coach, Alan Alborn manages the team and oversees the coaching and athletic program from Park City, Utah. He also works with development athletes and is the program manager and Head Coach for the Nordic Program " Park City Nordic Ski Club" at Utah Olympic Park.
Growing up in Alaska and later Steamboat Springs, Colorado, he competed on the World Cup for 10 years and is a three-time Olympian. Alan notched six National Championship titles in his career and held the American distance record for ski flying — 221.5 meters, or 720 feet, for 15 years which he earned in the spring of 2002 at Planica, Slovenia. Alan retired in 2007 and lives with his wife and five young sons in Park City. Alan quips that when they are older, he will be able to field a ski jumping team event.
WORLD CUP COACH
As the World Cup Coach, Igor, will be on the road with the World Cup team. He is responsible for our top athletes at the highest level. Igor brings a wealth of information and experience from his many years as an athlete, service man and coach.
As an athlete, Igor competed in Nordic Combined for the Slovenian National Team at the World Cup level, achieving top 30 results 10 times. After he ended his career in 1998 he began to work for the Slovenian Ski Federation. He has been attributed to working with Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping Juniors, Assistant coach Continental Cup Nordic Combined, Head Coach World Cup Nordic Combined and Assistant coach for Ladies World Cup Ski Jumping Teams. He has also worked closely with the ski manufacturer Elan as a service man and technician. Most recently he was the Continental Cup coach for USA Nordic before taking the World Cup position with WSJ-USA. In All he has over 17 years of coaching and service man experience across ski jumping and nordic combined. Igor is from Kranj, Slovenia, Where he lives with his wife, two daughters and his Great Dane, Scooby.
As Development Coach, Blake Hughes' main focus is on junior athletes, specifically ages 15-19 years of age. In coordination with Head Coach, Alan Alborn, he is responsible for providing a development program for junior athletes on the Women's Ski Jumping USA team. Blake is also the Junior World Championship team coach and travels to domestic and international competitions at the Continental Cup and FIS Cup level. He also works with USA Nordic as the Head Junior National Team coach and with the Park City Nordic Ski Club as the Competition Team coach.
Although Blake was born in Pennsylvania, he has lived his whole life in Park City, Utah. He competed for the United States for 8 seasons, mostly at the Continental Cup level. He also represented the USA at two Junior World Championships. He moved into coaching a few months after he finished ski jumping as a competitive athlete in 2009. In his free time you will most likely find him alpine skiing or riding his mountain bike.
