Winter… the wind, blush on the cheeks from the frost, cold, slush, ice… Sometimes in the winter time there is no desire to go outdoors, what kind of sport is that. And in fact training in winter is even more useful than in the warm season. So let’s get out from under the blankets and go ahead to revitalize the body.

Sure many of us love to watch winter sports on TV, just the Winter Olympics gathers millions of people near the TV screens. Do you think athletes don’t want to lie in a warm bed, too? Although, if we believe the statistics, the Russians have become much more active in sports, including during the winter. Soon enough, in a few years among our population will be mass enthusiasm for sports. But to such a sports orientation, as among the European population, we are, of course, still far away. Thus, the population of northern European countries open the winter season almost as a national holiday. Vacations, winter vacations people in Finland and Sweden, mostly spent at ski resorts. It is worth noting that average life expectancy in these countries is over 80 years, is it the fault of mass enthusiasm for sports, why not?

So, here are a couple of reasons to join winter sports.

Love of Winter

Once you mastered skiing or snowboarding you already look forward to the next cold snap in order to enjoy plenty of skiing. In summer you look longingly at the slopes, dreaming as soon as possible to feel the frosty breeze in your face, the adrenaline rush of dangerous turns on the slopes. Already in the fall you begin to prepare for the upcoming season, carefully selecting equipment, clothing.

What is the secret of such a desperate love? The fact that during the descent the human body experiences stress, which causes a hormonal surge, which in turn brings a rush of joy and sometimes even emotional euphoria. Starting with fear, soon riding brings the feeling of flight, adrenaline enthusiasm. It is not surprising that such sensations will want to return again and again.

Fighting the Longing

During the cold season there is often a lack of hormones of joy. And as we know, any physical activity contributes to the active release of endorphins in the blood, which increases the level of pleasure many times over.

In winter, nature itself seems to stand still, and most people hibernate like bears. And, if in summer there is energy for sports and for active pastime, in winter comes apathy. And it’s no wonder, because in winter many usual sports are inaccessible – you don’t want to ride a bike or rollerblades, you don’t want to run in this slush. But, no longer actively engage in sports, we ourselves exacerbate our melancholy. Winter in the city and quite depressing effect, so do not fall into despondency and choose to be active to taste and to shoulder. This is health, and the reason to get out more often in the fresh air, which will be the key to cheerfulness and good mood.

Healthy Body

In winter, most people put on excess weight. Of course, if you spend too much time at home, and even closer to the fridge, extra pounds just ask for your waist and butt. During the cold season the organism, as if by chance, craves for something fat and sweet, it is our nature, because during the cold season the body has to store maximum amount of fat deposits in order not to die. But we are not in the Middle Ages, so we do not need extra pounds. But there is good news – activity in the cold season allows you to burn the maximum number of kilocalories compared to the summer period. This is explained by the fact that the body additionally expends energy for its own heating. In addition, exercise in the fresh frosty air actively saturates the blood with oxygen, which clears the head and visibly strengthens the immune system.

Winter activity noticeably strengthens the cardiovascular system, the musculoskeletal system, muscles and respiratory system. Joints become mobile and flexible.

Choose a winter activity according to your physical abilities and personal preferences. Important role in choosing a sports discipline plays a temperament. Thus, people-choleric tend to prefer alpine skiing and snowboarding, sanguine will be delighted with figure skating, and phlegmatic and melancholic people will appreciate curling, which does not require them much effort. But of course it all depends on the individual. Remember, only the sport that you really like will benefit.
